Bet of the day: Monday’s racing

Off to a flying start at Ayr

Did you back your share of winners over the weekend? We witnessed a fantastic few days at the Newmarket July Cup festival, but are now back to our bread and butter on Monday.

There’s plenty going on to start the week, with afternoon meetings at Ayr and Ffos Las, before evening racing takes place at Windsor, Wolverhampton and Killarney.

What better way to start the week than with a winner? We aim to send a few your way with our race-by-race selections from Ayr, which can be found further down this page, while our NAP lines up at the earliest opportunity. Click now to get involved.

NAP a solid winner on debut

Seven legs from Ayr get underway at 2.00pm, and our strongest bet goes in the opener. The perfect way to start the day. Punters have a tricky auction stakes run over seven furlongs to solve here, and although not normally a race we’d go all in on, French Flyer does look a capable sort. The best of an eight-runner field, Michael Dods sends out his two-year-old gelding.

He made a winning start to his career at this venue three weeks ago, scoring over six furlongs in convincing fashion. Nearest rival Up Sticks And Go finished runner-up, coming home over two lengths behind. It wasn’t all plain sailing, as we saw evidence of his inexperience in the early stages, but once moving into the race there really was only one winner.

Mulrennan booking a positive

Punters who followed that winning bow would’ve marked him down as a useful runner worth keeping on the right side of in similar races, and that’s exactly what we have here. He’s running over an extra furlong, but that strong finish last time left us in no doubt he was capable of going further. Will he go two for two? We think so.

Jockey Paul Mulrennan was in the saddle last month, and the fact he’s back will go as another positive for followers. The pilot has a solid reputation for getting the job done on favourites, and he should enhance that in the first. Improvement is expected from the pick – let’s see him deliver.
