Gilbert 6/4 to outpot Fu in York
This year’s UK Championship in York has already seen plenty of shocks and upsets in its early stages and, as the prestigious ranking event continues to heat up, bet of the day from Coral is David Gilbert to overcome Marco Fu at 6/4 in their last 32 meeting.
The Derby-born cueist will be confident of getting the job done at the Barbican Centre in this crucial clash, with Gilbert having already tasted success in a recent encounter with Hong Kong potter Fu in his homeland of China.
During their most recent match-up, the 34-year-old rallied to a deciding frame victory over his veteran opposition, securing a hard-fought 6-5 triumph in the International Championship quarter-final.
Gilbert then impressively reached his best ever ranking event finish in the same competition, eventually going on to clash with John Higgins in the final on Chinese soil, though he was dispatched 10-5.
Moving up the rankings
The Englishman has enjoyed a rise up the world rankings after a solid season to date, now sitting pretty in 21st position in the standings, just five places off a top 16 spot and seven adrift of his next opponent Fu.
This potting pair have met on the baize on the biggest platform before, with Gilbert having been narrowly outpotted at the 2013 world championship by Fu, while he was on the losing end of a deciding frame finale in the 2014 International Championship last 32.
Although, with an abundance of experience now under his belt since those defeats and a momentous victory over Fu already this year, odds of 6/4 on Gilbert earning a second successive win against the Chinese cueist are extremely flattering.
So back the Derby break-builder to record a second consecutive win over Fu at the UK Championship in York as Coral’s bet of the day and potentially reap the rewards of these tasty odds.
