Gabrial has eye of the Tiger
Gabrial The Tiger has put together some fantastic form for trainer Richard Fahey and jockey Adam McNamara this summer, so holds every chance of continuing his purple patch this Sunday in the Little Legs Mile Handicap (actually raced over 7f 122yds) at Chester (15:50).
This four-year-old bay gelding is a consecutive course and distance winner in the last six weeks, relishing the good ground on offer at the Cheshire venue.
Successive victories have come by increasing margins, first by one-and-a-half lengths and then three, with Gabrial The Tiger looking to complete a four-timer here with McNamara in the saddle.
A front-runner well worth backing
In those wins and his success at Musselburgh beforehand, Gabrial The Tiger has made all while dictating the pace in similar handicap races, so this Class 3 field should not be a problem.
Handler Fahey has had eight winners hailing from his stables already this week, so the yard is clearly in decent form, adding further appeal to the selection.
Now officially rated 88 after landing the hat-trick, Gabrial The Tiger is actually racing off 4lb lower than when last successful at Chester earlier this month.
Ice Slice at a disadvantage
James Eustace’s Ice Slice is the other in-form contender, but there are reasons to oppose him and believe Gabrial The Tiger can come out on top.
Although recording four successive victories prior to a disappointing third of seven behind Tom Easterby’s Silvery Moon at Haydock on heavy ground that clearly didn’t suit, Ice Slice has never raced at Chester before.
Couple that with the fact he goes with 3lb more in the saddlebags than the selection, and Gabrial The Tiger is surely worth a punt for victory.
