Bet of the day: Friday’s racing
Published:Sandown’s card looks a treat
Friday’s schedule is sparked to life with the seven-race meet at Sandown, where the grade two Jane Seymour Mares Novices’ Hurdle goes as the main attraction, due to post at 2.40pm.
You can bet on every race of the day right here at Coral, and if you scroll to the bottom of the page, we have laid out a selection in every contest at the Surrey course, to aid your multiples. For our bet of the day however, we focus on the big one.
A winning team
Two-miles three-furlongs is mapped out in front of this tight five-runner field, and all the early support has come for Colin’s Sister. Respected trainer Fergal O’Brien gets his six-year-old ready for her latest challenge in fine shape, having scored a hat-trick at Haydock last time out.
Success around Chepstow and Warwick was completed when taking another mare novices hurdle in mid-December, winning in eye-catching fashion, leading home the chasing-pack by six-lengths. My Khaleesi finished best of the rest, but never got near the victor, who made a couple of little errors along the way, but knuckled down to her task when it mattered and was seen pulling away at the finish.
Jockey Paddy Brennan has been in the saddle for each of those three recent wins, and returns to do the steering again here. The pair appear to have struck up a good understanding and the fact they are working together again rates as a major positive for backers.
She must concede 5lbs here, but has shown enough in her previous efforts to suggest that will all be taken in her stride.
Guns ready to fire again
Giving a mention to the next best on the card and Twenty Eight Guns is the one for us in the penultimate race of the day, a three-mile handicap chase due at 4.15pm.
The seven-year-old mare has already proven herself over this trip and, if fit and ready to go, she’s capable of doing so once again. She is bang in form at the minute, finishing no higher than runner-up in the last four starts, winning three of those, including each of her last two. Twenty Eight Guns is improving with the passing of every race over fences and should be able to deal with the consequences here.
