Coral’s bet of the day

  • Foxtrot Knight handler Carr’s stable in-form
  • Trainer holds impressive 25 per cent success rate at Chelmsford
  • Selection a three-time winner last season, also course and distance victor

Knight can rise to the occasion at Chelmsford

Trainer Ruth Carr has her team in fine form, so Foxtrot Knight looks decent value to provide her with another winner in the 5f handicap on today’s card at Chelmsford (15:45).

This gelding was a three-time winner last season, and the last of those victories came at Kempton where he only had to be driven out to score by a cosy 1 1/4 lengths off a mark of 77.

Foxtrot Knight backed that up with a solid fourth off 83 over course and distance and also ran well to be when third at Windsor off 82.

Unlucky at Windsor

The four-year-old is now able to race off a reduced rating of 78, just 1lb higher than when last victorious, and comes into the contest on the back of two highly promising efforts.

After finishing fourth at Hamilton when travelling ominously well throughout on the heels of the leaders until weakening late on to be beaten 2 1/2 lengths, he went down by just a head at Windsor seven days ago after being short of room two furlongs from home before throwing down a persistent challenge inside the final furlong.

Granted better luck in-running, the son of Kyllachy may well have prevailed, and he is able to race in this off an unchanged mark.

Trainer has good strike rate at track

It makes Foxtrot Knight look weighted to gain compensation, and Carr has a good record with her rare runners at the venue.

She has a strike rate of 25 per cent at the track, saddling two winners and two placed horses from just eight runners.

Another plus is that Foxtrot Knight is a course and distance winner and, with James Sullivan in the saddle, this looks a good opportunity for him to get back on the scoresheet.
