- Three places from three runs for French horse
- Form and price makes for interesting bet
Briac a best bet
In today’s bet of the day, take a chance on French horse Briac in the 3:20pm at Towcester. The five-year-old is 9/2 second favourite with Coral to be victor with talented jockey Sam Twiston-Davies in the saddle, and has fared well since starting out to date.
Past results include a second place at Exeter last April, ridden by Gavin Sheehan on good to firm ground, while the horse followed up with a third place at Fontwell Park in November again with Sheehan steering him home. Last time out, though following a change of trainer to Jim Best (previously Warren Greatrex) and jockey to Twiston-Davies, despite a third place finish, Briac showed considerable improvement, finishing strongly at Lingfield Park.
Strong chaser
In each of Briac’s races to date, the horse has gone from strength to strength and shown a particular proclivity for chasing down the leaders with a steely determination. Over time, it can become a solid performer and under the duo of Best and Twiston-Davies, has a lot of potential.
Last time out, four days before Christmas, Briac showed promise for finishing well and only just let second place slip in the final 100 metres. Twiston-Davies already has two wins to his account for January and will be confident that he can challenge at Towcester, with Briac definitely providing one of his best chances to do so.
Each-way bet holds value
With Coral paying out for two places with 1/4 odds, taking a 9/2 price on Briac could hold fantastic value, especially if chosen in an each-way double or treble. Simply tick the small ‘each way’ box on the betting slip to action this. Favourite, Pride of Lecale is expected to provide the strongest competition for Briac, though a placed finish is a sensible prediction here.
