Bet of the Day: Back France to stroll to victory against Wales
Published:Goal-shy visitors could struggle from the off
France host Wales at Stade de France in Friday night’s friendly, as Les Bleus gear up for next summer’s World Cup in Russia. But Didier Deschamps’ men won’t be joined there by the Dragons, who struggled for goals in a disappointing WCQ campaign.
The visitors managed seven goals in their last eight qualifiers, finishing the campaign with a 1-0 defeat at home to the Republic of Ireland. So their chances of netting against a French side who’ve conceded just once in four games look slim.
As for Deschamps’ charges, they’ve won four of their last five games. That’s included a 4-0 rout of the Netherlands, and a comeback victory against England.
With the hosts in good form and Wales lacking a spark up front, Coral’s Bet of the Day is France to Win to Nil at 4/5.
Les Bleus to make a strong start
While a France victory looks a safe bet, the returns for a home win are pretty modest at 1/4. That means the Coral News Team are tipping the hosts to take an early lead at more sizeable odds.
Deschamps’ side have led at the half-hour mark in three of their last four outings. And they’ve been especially prolific in the early stages of home games, with five goals before the 30-minute mark in their past five home matches.
While the Welsh have a decent defensive record, they’ve not faced top-class opposition for some time. So there could be real value in Result After 30 Minutes: France at 11/8.
Arsenal ace could rack up the goals
When Olivier Giroud is good for France, he’s sensational. The Arsenal man has scored 10 times in his past 16 outings for Les Bleus. But they’ve tended to come in gluts, with braces against Iceland and Luxembourg, as well as a hat-trick at home to Paraguay.
While his recent form for the Gunners has been hit-and-miss, he’s always a threat when paired up front with Antoine Griezmann. And the 31-year-old’s knowledge of the opposition’s largely-Premier League based defence could also prove vital.
The former Montepellier man is 23/20 in the Anytime Scorer market, but the Coral News Team prefer the look of Giroud to Score 2 or More Goals at 9/2.
