The best 2024/25 EFL Championship, League One & League Two bets

Kenilworth Road - Luton

The EFL Championship, League One and League Two seasons kick off this weekend, with 72 teams fighting it out for the chance to either win their respective divisions, get promoted, or in some case, remain in the football league.

Coral shares its 'best bets' for each of the leagues, starting with the Championship, where we're going with ex-Premier League striker to end the season as the Golden Boot winner in England's second-tier.

EFL Championship best bets

Elijah Adebayo to be Top Scorer

Luton Town won many admirers during their short stay in the Premier League last season, and one player who certainly took the step up to Premier League in his stride was striker Elijah Adebayo. 10 goals in a struggling side in your first season of top-flight football is no mean feat, but when you consider he only actually started 16 of The Hatters’ 38 league games, you realise that it was an excellent return from the 28-year-old.

I expected he’d be right at top of this market, so I was somewhat surprised to see him as big as 20/1 in what looks a very open race for the golden boot in the Championship this year, and providing he can stay fit (and Luton can fight off the attention of other clubs) Adebayo can cement his position as one of the very best centre forwards in the division this season.

EFL League One best bets

Rotherham to be promoted from League 1

The return of Steve Evans to The New York Stadium will have given all Millers fans a lift after their dismal display in the Championship last year, and they look more than capable of bouncing back to the second tier at the first time of asking. Birmingham have raised plenty of eyebrows with their business this summer, but away from the blues, League 1 looks a wide-open division this time around, and Rotherham could easily fare best of the rest, with neither Bolton (15-2) or Huddersfield (10-1) completely convincing with their business this summer.

In Johnson Clarke-Harris, they’ve captured one of the very best centre forwards at this level, and if you’re going to have success in League 1, you undoubtedly need a striker capable of getting 20+ goals. The signings of both Liam Kelly and Sean Raggett who both have promotions from this division on their CV also look very shrewd, and with a good mixture of youth and experience, it’s hard to see Steve Evans’ men finishing outside that all important top 6.

EFL League Two best bets

Port Vale to be promoted from League 2

A disastrous second half of the season for The Valiants saw them relegated from League 1 with a game to spare following a run of just 2 wins in 23 league games in 2024, but there are plenty of reasons to believe that Darren Moore’s team will have a much more successful season this time around.

The signings of George Byers, Jayden Stockley and Ronan Curtis all catch the eye for The Vale, and the combination of a strong an experienced playing squad with a proven manager at this level suggests that the 9/4 currently available about promotion looks more than fair.

League 2 looks significantly weaker than this time last year, with Wrexham, Stockport and Mansfield all out of the way, and It would be a surprise if Port Vale aren’t good enough to capture one of those four promotion spots back into League 1 this season.
