A terrific 12 nominees have been put forward for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award for 2015.

Lizzie Armitstead

Sport: Cycling
Age: 28
Achievement: Became world road race champion in the United States.

Lucy Bronze

Sport: Football
Age: 24
Achievement: Manchester City ladies right back part of England squad that finished third at the Women’s World Cup. Bronze was nominated for the Golden Ball at the tournament.

Jessica Ennis-Hill

Age: 29
Achievement: Regained Heptathlon title at World Athletics Championships in Beijing just 13 months after giving birth to her son.

Mo Farah

Sport: Athletics
Age: 32
Achievement: Successfully defended the men’s world 5000m and 10000m titles, cementing his status as Britain’s best-ever long-distance runner.

Chris Froome

Sport: Cycling
Age: 30
Achievement: Won the Tour de France for the second time in his career, regaining the title after crashing out in 2014.

Tyson Fury

Sport: Boxing
Age: 27
Achievement: Dethroned Wladimir Klitschko on points to become WBA, IBF and WBO World Heavyweight champion, and is the first British fighter to win a belt in that weight class for six years.

Lewis Hamilton

Sport: Formula 1
Age: 30
Achievement: Retained the Drivers’ Championship to become a three-time winner and emulate motor racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart.

Andy Murray

Sport: Tennis
Age: 28
Achievement: Led Team GB to their first Davis Cup triumph since the Fred Perry era some 79 years ago. Although a team event, Murray won all 11 of his rubbers, including eight singles matches.

Adam Peaty

Sport: Swimming
Age: 20
Achievement: Did the 50m and 100m breaststroke double at the World Aquatics Championship, and helped Britain win a 4x100m mixed medley Gold medal too.

Achievement: Won the World Athletics Championships men’s long jump Gold to complete a personal Grand Slam of major medals in the sandpit (also European, Commonwealth and Olympic titles).

Age: 22
Achievement: First-ever Briton to win Gold at a World Gymnastics Championships.
