Bath preview: Grams And Ounces weighted to strike

Published:

Grams And Ounces can take advantage of a drop in the weights to land the 1m 5f handicap on today’s card at Bath (16.10).

The gelding hasn’t won on the flat for five years, with his last success coming in a class 4 contest at Folkestone off a mark of 69.

Grams And Ounces got put up to 76 for that victory, but is now able to race in this class 6 affair off just 54 on his first start for trainer Grace Harris.

That gives the eight-year-old major claims from a handicapping perspective, and the son of Royal Applause has been in good form over hurdles recently.

Grams And Ounces landed back-to-back contests at Stratford and Sedgefield last month, and was far from disgraced last time out when returned to the level and fading late on to finish a four length fifth of eight over 2m at Chelmsford.

Judged on that running, the drop back in trip this afternoon looks sure to suit, and Grams And Ounces also has the services of Callum Shepherd who is good value for his 7lb claim

Taking it into account, Grams And Ounces looks weighted to take all the beating.

In the 1m 2f handicap (15.10), the in-form Royal Roslea can get back to winning ways now dropped back in grade.

The Marcus Tregoning trained filly left behind her first two runs in handicaps to open her account in good style over course and distance last month.

After being held-up off the pace, Royal Roslea came with a sustained run to get up close home and win a shade cosily by 1/2 a length in a class 6 affair off a mark of 51.

The three-year-old got put up 6lb for that success, but ran really well of her revised rating of 57 when going down by just 3/4 of a length to Light Wave in a 12-runner class 5 contest at Windsor three weeks ago.

It was an effort which suggested there was more to come and, although now 3lb higher in the weights, Royal Roslea remains open to further progression after just seven starts and is clearly thriving at present.

Royal Roslea also now drops back down into class 6 company, and this looks a nice opportunity for her to get back in the winners’ enclosure.
