Bath preview: Angelito can secure overdue success
Published:Angelito can take advantage of a drop in grade to score an overdue success in the extended 5f handicap on this evening’s card at Bath (20.20).
The Ed McMahon trained gelding is on a long losing run having not scored since landing back-to-back contests at the track in the summer of 2013.
However, Angelito has run well to make the frame on numerous occasions including off marks as high as 79.
The six-year-old is now able to race off a rating 75, having posted a string of solid efforts this season in class 4 contests.
They include a cracking 2 1/4 length staying on fifth of 14 to Mon Brav last time out at York, and the third home Bop It has come out and won since.
That gives the form a strong look in the context of this lower grade class 5 contest, especially as Angelito is able to race in it off 1lb lower.
The son of Primo Valentino has also bagged a good draw in stall 1 from which to tuck-in and stalk the pace before being produced with a late challenge, and this looks a great opening for Angelito to get back to winning ways.
In the 5f handicap earlier on the card (17.50), Burnt Cream looks to have plenty going for her.
Trained by Martin Bosley, the mare is a course and distance winner who was last successful at Lingfield back in January when scoring by a neck off a mark of 55.
The eight-year-old backed that up with a solid third at the same venue off 58, but has subsequently failed to trouble the judge in five starts.
That has resulted in drop in the weights, and Burnt Cream is now able to race of her last winning mark after shaping as if coming to hand last time out over course and distance when a not knocked about 2 3/4 length fifth to Captain Ryan.
If building on that effort Burnt Cream has every chance from a handicapping perspective, and the booking of Martin Harley to do the steering catches the eye.
Harley was successful on his sole ride for Bosley in 2014, and has since finished in the frame on his only ride for the yard this year.
