Ayr tips for Monday: Crank Em Up punters and make a Golden Investment

Crank Em Up odds appeal in opener
Monday sees a six-race jumps card take place in Scotland, and among Ayr tips for October 24 are Crank Em Up odds to score in the class 5 2m 4f maiden hurdle that kicks things off at 14:00.
David Dennis’ five-year-old gelding made all last time out in April to a win a bumper at Warwick under Noel Fehily.
Aidan Coleman takes over again on board, and that is a big plus because of two wins (including Old Roan Chase winner Third Intention) and four seconds from 13 rides since Friday at Cheltenham and Aintree.
The jockey has also partnered the selection to make the frame in two prior outings, adding further weight to this proffered punt.
Crank Em Up also takes 2lb out of the saddlebags for his hurdles debut, and the good to soft going at the Coral Scottish Grand National venue is set to suit.
Spiritofthegames was the overnight favourite to this contest, but Dan Skelton’s stable isn’t quite yet in-form, so punters must bear that in mind when placing their bets.
Progress Drive has winning course form on his side for Nicky Richards but, while winning his second bumper at Ayr, he finished last of 11 in his only other run there under rules.
Other entrants are all relative unknowns, so side with Crank Em Up odds in the opener.
Donald McCain double a Golden Investment
In the class 4 novices’ limited handicap over the same trip later on (16:10), Golden Investment looks a worthy favourite to follow-up on his late spring win at Kelso.
Donald McCain’s seven-year-old made all and kept on well to land that contest by 3 1/4 lengths. Rested up over the summer months, there is definite scope for improvement from Golden Investment.
Although now officially rated 111, jockey Will Kennedy will carry 5lb less than when partnering the selection to that May success.
Lucinda Russell horses are always worthy of respect at Scottish courses, yet her Newtown Lad needs softer going than he’ll get at Ayr if previous form is any indicator.
Jackie Stephens’ Bright Prospect carries joint top weight here, so Golden Investment at 4lb lighter than these race rivals looks well-weighted to deliver.
Selection handler McCain looks to have real claims of a quick-fire double, as he also saddles Oscatara in the class 4 1m 7f handicap chase at 15:35.
His career profile shows the nine-year-old struggles to handle anything over 2m but, now given a break and returned to racing over 15f, there seems little danger of Oscatara being pulled up again.
The going at Ayr appears to suit Fair Loch, but Brian Ellison’s entry in this lacks consistency. That leaves backing a Donald McCain double as a potentially worthy and Golden investment.
