Ayr Preview: Finn’s chances look first Class

Published:

Finn Class shaped really well on his seasonal reappearance, and can take advantage of a drop in the weights to land the 7f handicap on today’s seven-race card at Ayr (15.30).

The gelding had some smart form to his name when trained by Michael Bell, with his last success coming in a class 2 handicap at Kempton off a mark of 79.

Finn Class backed that up with a cracking third of 13 to Bilimbi in the valuable class 2 Royal Mile at Musselburgh off 83, and is now able to race in this lower grade class 4 affair of 76.

That is 3lb lower than when last successful, and the four-year-old comes into the contest having run well last time out on just his third start since joining Michael Dods.

Finn Class showed plenty of pace before keeping on to finish a four length four of 12 to Taghreeb in a 1m handicap at Redcar on his first start for 154 days and looks sure to come on for the run.

The drop back to 7f, over which Finn Class has won four of his nine starts, also looks sure to suit and another plus is that his trainer boasts a healthy 20 per cent strike rate with his runners at the track in the past 12 months.

In the 5f handicap (15.00), Go Go Green looks to have plenty in his favour now eased in grade.

Trained locally by Jim Goldie, the nine-year-old is a tough and consistent sort who has has won 11 out of his 67 starts on the turf.

The last of those successes came in a class 4 contest at Thirsk off a mark of 70, and the veteran is now able to race in this lower grade class 5 affair off just 1lb higher.

That gives Go Go Green every chance form a handicapping perspective, and the son of Acclamation comes into the race on the back of two solid efforts.

In the first of those, Go Go Green didn’t get the clearest of runs when coming from off the pace to be beaten just a length into third behind Distant Past at Musselburgh.

The gelding backed that up with a solid 2 1/2 length fifth of 11 to Initsaab at Ripon after being slowly away, and the winner and fourth home Canyari have both scored since to give the form a solid look.

If Go Go Green can build on those efforts, he looks weighted to take all the beating.
