Ayr preview: Cassiano can collect for Carr

Published:

San Cassiano shaped as if returning to form last time out and looks weighted to take all the beating in the 1m 2f handicap at Ayr today (15.50).

The Ruth Carr-trained gelding was in terrific form in the early part of last year when winning three times, including over course and distance on soft ground off a mark of 81.

San Cassiano’s last success came at Newcastle off a mark of 85, and the eight-year-old is now able to race off 14lb lower.

That makes the veteran thrown-in at the weights on the pick of his form, and the son of Bertolini signalled that he could be ready to take advantage when putting in an improved display 16 days ago to finish third to Libran at Beverley.

The winner is a rapidly improving sort who has since gone on to follow-up in a competitive 16-runner affair at York, and that gives the form a strong look in the context of this contest.

If building on that effort, the front running San Cassiano is going to be tough to peg back on ground which holds no fears.

Trainer Jim Goldie loves nothing more than a winner at his local track, and Goninodaethat and Order Of Service hold leading claims of providing him with a double on the card.

Goninodaethat runs in the 6f handicap (14.50) and is a dual course and distance winner who goes well with cut in the ground.

The seven-year-old was last successful when making all the the track to beat Jinky by 1 1/4 lengths off a mark of 63, and is now able to race off 3lb lower having shaped better than the bare result last time out following 200 days on the sidelines.

Order Of Service has also slipped to a handy mark, and with underfoot conditions to suit can take advantage to land the 7f handicap (15.20).

The five-year-old is now 3lb lower than when last successful on the all-weather at Wolverhampton, and prior to that had shown a good attitude to land a competitive 14-runner contest on soft ground at Redcar.

Order Of Service also now gets the visor fitted for the first time, and if that has the desired effect a big run looks assured.
