Royal Ascot Day 4 Tips
With both Ladies’ Day and the Ascot Gold Cup now over, Royal Ascot heads into the weekend with a slightly more relaxed atmosphere than earlier in the week. Things are far from quiet on the track, however, with 2 Group 1 races and nearly £1.5 million in prize money up for grabs. The highlights on Day 4 include The Commonwealth Cup and Coronation Stakes, both top class Group 1 contests that are sure to be great races.
To get you started, here is our Royal Ascot tips, Friday edition, for your reading pleasure. And for all the latest Royal Ascot betting odds on all the races, you can check out our Sportsbook.
2:30pm The Albany Stakes
Group: 3
Age: 2 (fillies)
Prize: £90,000
Distance: 6 furlongs
Our Royal Ascot tip: Nayibeth (currently 7/2)
Trainer Wesley Ward has said Nayibeth is currently his best 2-year-old and so far she has not disappointed. She won her first race, on flat turf just like Ascot, by over 4 lengths in April.
Nayibeth’s biggest competition at 5/1 is Chili Petin. Also trained by Ward, she has won over a similar distance on the same surface recently.
3:05pm The King Edward VII Stakes
Group: 2
Age: 3 (colts & geldings)
Prize: £225,000
Distance: 1 mile 4 furlongs
Our Royal Ascot tip: Private Secretary (currently 4/1)
In the last 10 King Edward VII stakes the favourite has won only once. Keen students of history, we’re giving favourite Japan at 7/4 a miss.
With 3 successive wins in 2019 so far (Redcar, Sandown, and Goodwood), Private Secretary is in form. He didn’t run in the Epsom Derby, but historically a strong Epsom Derby performance is a bad indicator for this race.
3:40pm The Commonwealth Cup
Group: 1
Age: 3
Prize: £500,000
Distance: 6 furlongs
Our Royal Ascot tip: Khaadem (currently 13/2)
Ten Sovereigns is the favourite and is tipped by many, but Khaadem could cause an upset. The 3-year-old has a recent form in his favour after winning his last 3 races. Trained by speed-king Charlie Hills, this 3-year-old specialises over 6 furlongs and could relish the fast conditions at Royal Ascot.
4:20pm The Coronation Stakes
Group: 1
Age: 3 (fillies)
Prize: £500,000
Distance: 1 mile
Our Royal Ascot tip: Jubiloso (currently 4/1)
Jubiloso is in great form and has won both her races this season, at Chelmsford in April and at Newbury in May. Both races were shorter than a mile, so we will have to see if the Sir Michael Stoute-trained horse has the staying power for a longer distance.
5:00pm The Sandringham Stakes
Group: Listed, Handicap
Age: 3 (fillies)
Prize: £90,000
Distance: 1 mile
Our Royal Ascot tip: Rainbow Heart (currently 9/1)
Another 1 mile race for 3-year-old fillies, but with a much smaller purse. With a huge field and no clear favourite, picking a winner is as much about rating the handicaps as the horses. We like Rainbow Heart as she came third in her last run, but this is a tough race to call.
5:35pm The Duke of Edinburgh Stakes
Group: Handicap
Age: 3+
Prize: £90,000
Distance: 1 mile 4 furlongs
Our Royal Ascot tip: Spark Plug (currently 25/1)
We like an outsider for the last race of the day: Spark Plug. Sure, the 8-year-old has run in a LOT of races, but we think his experience will help him. Among a huge field and with no clear favourite, we think this Brian Meehan-trained veteran could shine.
