3 – Master Of Reality (W M Lordan) 66-1

How the 2019 Ascot Gold Cup happened

Setting the early pace was Dee Ex Bee after jumping ahead from the stalls. The pack stayed together as they set off at a slow pace. Stradivarius sat in third, with Dee Ex Bee and Master Of Reality just ahead.

After seven furlongs, Dee Ex Bee and Master Of Reality still led with Capri and Thomas Hobson sitting close behind. At the half-way marker, Raymond Tusk dropped away from the group, with Cross Counter also towards the rear. Stradivarius was still going well, keeping pace with the leaders, waiting for a gap.

As they came to the turn, Dettori saw a glimpse of daylight and went for it. Bursting into the hole, he pulled level with Dee Ex Bee and Master Of Reality and blasted past. Finding room and cruising down the final straight as the crowd roared for the favourite.

Frankie punched the air with yards to go, celebrating his seventh win at the Ascot Gold Cup and his fourth win of the day! With his beaming smile, Frankie Dettori made his flying dismount to receive the Ascot Gold Cup from the Queen on this historic Ladies Day.

Ascot 2019 Gold Cup Winner

Ladies Day at Royal Ascot 2019 was all about Frankie Dettori. After winning the first 3 races of the day, buzz was building that he could run the card and repeat the magnificent 7 of 1996. He rode a brilliant race on Stradivarius to take home the Ascot Gold Cup, making it a fantastic 4 wins from 4. However, he couldn’t quite emulate 1996, finishing second in The Britannia Stakes Handicap.

However, after winning the Ascot Gold Cup, nothing could remove the smile from Frankie’s face. His customary flying dismount marked a seventh Ascot Gold Cup win and the second for trainer John Gosden. Stradivarius will surely look to defend his title next year and cement his place in history as one of the great stayers.
