Anthony Joshua odds on for debut MSG win
Latest odds and betting on Joshua v Ruiz Jr
Anthony Joshua has been installed as the heavy odds on favourite to beat Andy Ruiz Jr in their bout at Madison Square Garden on 1st June.
Ruiz Jr has filled the vacancy of Joshua’s next challenger after Jarrell Miller was forced to withdraw due to failing a drugs test, but our traders fancy Joshua’s chances at retaining his belts after placing him as the 1/25 favourite.
“AJ’s opponent is confirmed, with California-based boxer Andy Ruiz Jr stepping into Jarrell Miller’s place. We make him the huge favourite to triumph and the odds of 1/25 on Joshua suggest that Ruiz doesn’t stand much hope of causing a shock in New York next month,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
As for his opponent, he’s the rank outsider to take down AJ on American soil. Ruiz Jr has been installed at odds of 10/1 to hand Joshua his first defeat. It’s odds on that the fight won’t make it the distance too at 2/9, with rounds five to seven being the most likely stop point at 9/1.
The draw or technical draw is priced at 25/1.
“It’s 10/1 for an upset and Ruiz’s record of 32 wins from 33 fights might tempt some punters into chancing their arm themselves at the prices, whilst punters putting their cash on Joshua will look for the round he knocks out his opponent for some value. Rounds five, six and seven are the most likely according to the markets, whilst it’s 14/1 for a first-round knockout,” added Aitkenhead.
