Our racing ambassador talks us through his rides at Sandown

1.50 Sandown – Airton

Airton has taken well to hurdles. He has the blinkers on tomorrow. A strongly run two miles on a stiff track should suit him.

He’s done very well and his form has worked out well. With 10st 6lbs he should be there or thereabouts.

3.35 Sandown – Rathlin Rose

Rathlin Rose ran well in the Coral Scottish Grand National for a long way and didn’t quite get home. He was bang there turning into the straight and just didn’t stay.

The 3m5f at Sandown should suit him better. He loves it round Sandown, and though he is one of the outsiders, I think he has a decent outside chance.

Looking back on the season

It would have been nice to get to a hundred but I fell a bit short on that score. However my prize money total was good. I also have a lot of nice young horses to look forward to next season and David has had a much better season which is good.

The highlight of the season was winning the Ladbrokes Trophy on Sizing Tennessee, which gave me a big thrill. Thistlecrack running so well at Haydock and in the King George were also big moments as well. All in all it hasn’t been too bad.

After Sandown I’m taking a few days off on holiday and then I’ll be back to ride through the summer and it all rolls on again.

Tom.
