After an impressive victory in the Nell Gwyn Stakes in mid-April, Qabala is the clear favourite to win the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.
The three-year-old filly, priced at 11/4 favourite, ran out to a 1 3/4l win over Mot Juste, who is a 14/1 longshot in Saturday’s meet.
Skitter Scatter looks best placed to challenge Qabala as the 5/1 second-favourite. She comes into the meet in red-hot form, winning her last three by no less than 1 1/2l.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Just Wonderful is third-favourite at 7/1, despite some inconsistency coming into the event, grabbing one win, a fourth and seventh in her last three.
Fairyland and Iridessa are 8/1 outsiders to mount a challenge at the front of the field.
“Qabala jumped to 1,000 Guineas favouritism with a commanding victory in the Nell Gwyn, and it would now take a major market upheaval for Roger Varian’s charge not to be sent off as jolly on Sunday,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
