Moyes favourite to become new Scotland manager
Latest odds for Scotland managerial role
Former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes is the leading contender to replace Alex McLeish as manager of the Scottish National Team, according to our traders.
The Scotsman has been placed as the early 9/2 favourite after McLeish was released from the role.
Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke is just behind Moyes in the pecking order. Clarke is having a superb season with Kilmarnock so it’s no surprise he’s linked with the national team role. He’s the 5/1 second-favourite.
“David Moyes has been linked with the Scotland job a number of times in the past and he tops our book to step into the role now. It feels like the right time in his career to take the leap into international management and Scotland can’t sink much lower than their catastrophic defeat to Kazakhstan so the pressure might well be off to begin with,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
Gordon Strachan (6/1), Malky Mackay (8/1) and Derek McInnes (10/1) are the most likely of the outsiders for the role, with a whole host of Scottish names linked.
Alex Neil has worked wonders in his previous jobs at Hamilton Academical and Norwich City, and he’s taken Preston into play-off contention this season too. He’s a 14/1 long-shot for the current vacancy.
“It is Scottish names that dominate our betting and we expect them to stick with the tactic that has seen them appoint six Scottish managers in a row since Berti Vogts departed,” added Aitkenhead.
