Klopp’s men are toe-to-toe with Man City
Liverpool must beat one of the most talent-laden squads in Premier League history if they’re to win this season’s title. But so far Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are doing their part.
Their 3-1 win over Southampton on Friday night was their fourth league win on the spin. Klopp’s men sit two points above Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, but the Sky Blues still have a game in hand.
Never give up approach pays off
Nevertheless, Liverpool have shown a cunning resolve in recent weeks to get the wins then they matter.
The Anfield side went 1-0 down early on last Friday, but kept plugging away and eventually prevailed 3-1 with two goals in the final 10 minutes from Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson.
It was the fourth league game in a row where Liverpool had scored in the final moments – and the third that turned a non-winning result into three points.
Getting the job done
Trent Alexander-Arnold bagged the late winner against Tottenham Hotspur, while a James Milner penalty turned a draw into victory away at Fulham.
It’s a solid response too after a lukewarm start to the calendar year which saw the Reds draw five times in seven games across all competitions.
While Klopp would surely love his side to wrap up games with time to spare, the key point at this stage is to just keep racking up the wins.
Many would say Guardiola’s City are playing the better football right now, but at this stage of the season, it’s results which matter. And in that area, Liverpool are firing on all cylinders.
If they can keep it up, they’ll be in place to capitalise on any slip-up from the reigning champions.
The games keep on coming
Next up for the Reds is the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie versus Porto on Tuesday night. Our traders have the Anfield side at 2/7 to build up a first-leg lead on home soil.
