The Cricket World Cup takes place in England this summer, and it’s the hosts that sit as pre-tournament favourites to win, according to our traders.
England are 9/4 to lift the trophy on home soil, with Eoin Morgan naming the likes of Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Joe Root and Ben Stokes in his provisional side to compete for the cup.
India are second-favourites to claim the tournament win at 3/1, while reigning champions Australia are 7/2 about retaining their crown.
“It’s going to be a bumper summer for the England cricket team and they go into the World Cup not only as the hosts but also the number one side in the world. They’re never going to have a better chance to win the tournament and we make them our clear favourites to lift the trophy,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
Our traders also have England as favourites to win the 2019 Ashes series. They take place straight after the Cricket Wold Cup, and Morgan’s side are 8/11 to claim the Urn. Australia are out at 7/4 for the series win, with a draw out at 13/2.
If a famous double could be achieved, it would be hard to overlook England’s star men for the 2019 Sports Personality of the Year. Our traders make Joe Root 20/1 best priced for that, with Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes in at 25s.
“If England do win the World Cup and the Ashes it would be a pretty safe bet to expect the players to feature heavily at SPOTY 2019. Joe Root is near the top of our betting already and might be a strong contender for the award if he can have a successful summer,” added Aitkenhead.
