Fixture rundown for Champions League places

They’ll be plenty of top jump racing from Cheltenham this week, but over in the Premier League there are still obstacles in play as the race for Champions League places heats up.

Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday has seen the odds shift towards North London.

But with eight games to go – nine in the case of Chelsea – we cast our eye over the potential pitfalls as the battle nears its home straight.

Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, United and Chelsea are all in the mix. But four can’t go into two so we take a look at who could fall at the final hurdle.

Tottenham Hotspur – P 30 PTS 61 – 8/13

Spurs still have everything in their own hands, but one point from a possible 12 in their last four league games is a worrying sign.

After being knocked out of the FA Cup, the incoming international break could be arriving at just the right time for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

A test of their mettle will come against Liverpool at Anfield in their next Prem game. But they could play up to four league games at their new White Hart Lane home.

Pochettino’s men are in the driving seat, but also have to go to a title-chasing Manchester City and host a meaty London derby against West Ham United.

Arsenal – P30 – PTS 60 – 5/6

The Gunners have taken four points off Spurs and United in their last two matches which has catapulted them to just a point of third-place.

Arsenal have played all their top-six rivals now, but will have to improve their away form to maintain their charge.

Boss Unai Emery has lost five games away from home compared to just one at the Emirates Stadium.

They have five of their last eight games on the road so will have to find a way of picking up points.

Man United – P30 – PTS 58 – 13/10

Sunday’s loss to Arsenal was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first loss in the league as Man United caretaker manager.

It’s clear to see Solskjaer has given the Red Devils some bite and will be confident of bouncing back with a win over Watford in their next league game.

Their heroic victory over Paris-Saint Germain last week means they are still in both the Champions League and FA Cup.

In the league they face Man City and Chelsea back-to-back within four days of each other in April.

That could be where things are won and lost.

Chelsea – P29 – PTS 57 – 10/11

Chelsea seem to be in and out of ‘crisis’ this season. But Eden Hazard salvaged what could be a vital point at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

The Blues have an ace up their sleeve in the form of a game in hand over their nearest rivals.

Maurizio Sarri have a home game against Brighton and Hove Albion that may be crucial.

They still have to travel to both Man United and Liverpool, which could have a massive impact for the title as well.

It’s been a topsy turvy first season for Sarri but one that could finish on a high.
