PSG v Man United Betting Tips: Can Ole’s men make the hosts sweat?
Odds and preview of Champions League second leg
Manchester United’s Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread at Paris Saint Germain ahead of tonight’s second leg.
The visitors took a 2-0 lead home from Old Trafford, where the injury-hit hosts had no answer for their pace or creativity after the break.
So, will this be plain sailing again for PSG? Or can Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all-but-secure the United gig permanently with a comeback for the ages? We go in-depth on tonight’s big game…
Head-to-Head
Amazingly, last month’s game at Old Trafford marked the first ever competitive meeting of these sides. So technically, PSG fans can boast a 100% winning record ahead of tonight.
While the visitors have a serious uphill task here, they can take some heart from an impressive record against French opposition. United have won 14 of their 25 meetings with Ligue 1 clubs.
Likely XIs
PSG often go three-at-the-back in Ligue 1, but tend towards a defensive foursome for those tougher European tests.
All they need to do is defend a lead, so Thomas Tuchel’s side could err on the cautious side. If so, it could be a holding midfield duo of Marquinhos and Marco Verratti protecting that back four.
With Neymar still out and Edinson Cavani unlikely to start, Kylian Mbappe will lead the line alone.
United need an early goal, so would be wise to run with their more adventures full-back pairing of Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot.
Further forward, injury to Alexis Sanchez could see Andreas Pereira reprise the attacking midfield role where he impressed against Southampton on Saturday. That’s behind a front two of Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku.
Key Battles
It’s no stretch to say Angel Di Maria may be the most unpopular former player in Old Trafford history. But the fiery Argentine had the last laugh in the first leg, producing an exquisite display – and assisting both goals.
He’ll be keen to cause his former employers further grief, and get that supply into the clinical Mbappe. The 20-year-old has bagged 29 goals in 32 games this season.
If PSG do commit men forward, the visitors could well rely Shaw and Dalot to lead the counter. The Portuguese ace has bagged assists in two of the club’s last four Prem games.
But it could all come down to how the home defence deal with Lukaku. No question he’s a form player, but he’s on a hot streak right now – following back-to-back braces.
Match Odds
Our traders aren’t holding out much hope for the visitors, despite their resurgence under Solskjaer. PSG are 4/9 on the night, while it’s 18/5 for the Draw.
The Red Devils are 6/1 to outscore the opposition in 90 minutes, but it’s a heftier 12/1 that they qualify.
With PSG managing a single clean sheet in 11 CL games, but ruthless in attack, this could be a goalfest. We go 4/7 for Over 2.5 Goals, while it’s 7/5 for Over 3.5.
In the Anytime Goalscorer market, Mbappe leads the way at 4/9. As for United, their most likely men are Lukaku at 23/10 and Rashford at 13/5.
