Saturday – Newbury
Grand Vision is 13 years old now but I still think he’s got a bit of spark about him, his form from last year has worked out really well.
He’s run really well at Newbury before and although he’s not getting any younger he can still be competitive here, and if he runs his race that would give him an each way shout here.
Lillington has been improving all season, and was at his most impressive at Newbury last time out over course and distance.
He seems to be gaining confidence all the time, and although he’s creeping up the handicap with every win, he does seem to be improving as well so hopefully they haven’t got to the bottom of him just yet.
Sunday – Exeter
We’re giving Silverhow a run over hurdles as he seemed to lose his way over fences a little bit, and jumped to the right last time, so this will hopefully be a nice confidence builder for him.
He has had a wind op, and if we can get him back on track I’m sure he’ll be winning again soon.
Dinos Benefit is on a career high mark of 133 now, after a second and a win in her last two starts, but she schooled well in the week and can hopefully progress again over fences.
This is a tough little race though, and I do think her current mark is high enough.
Sandy Beach has a decent chance after a good run here in the Devon National last month.
That was over further, but dropping back in trip in a wide open race won’t be a problem, and if he runs his race he should be thereabouts.
We run two in the Bumper. Ambion Hill is a big baby who ran here on his debut last month, we couldn’t see much because of the fog that day but what we could see was that he travelled well for a long way. He’s not a bumper winning type but much more a lovely horse for the future.
War Lord is a half brother to White Moon, he does everything nicely at home and this should be a nice educational start for him and show us where we are with him.
Farewell Noel
I rode alongside Noel Fehily for most of my career, and I can only say that he’s an absolute top man, a complete gentleman, and you won’t hear a bad word said against him for those very good reasons.
He was a class rider all the way through his career, it wasn’t until the later years that he picked up the quality rides his talent deserved, but he got there in the end, and he’ll be sorely missed.
