Derby v Wigan Betting Tips: Can Rams get back on track?

Odds and preview for Championship clash

Derby County and Wigan Athletic are both in need of three vital points when they face off at Pride Park tonight.

The hosts’ promotion bid has veered off course after three losses on the bounce in league action. A win would take them level on points with sixth-placed Bristol City.

Wigan are unbeaten in five, but they need to start turning draws into wins. Paul Cook’s side are only three points above the drop zone after winning just one of their last seven games. A first away win since August would be very welcome here.

Before it gets started at 7:45pm on the Sky Sports Red Button, you’ll find all the pre-match odds and info right here…

Head-to-Head

Derby won 1-0 when these sides met back in December, thanks to a goal from Jack Marriott.

These two have faced each other seven times in the last decade. Derby have won four of those, Wigan have won twice, with one draw.

There don’t tend to be many goals between these clubs though. Only one of those seven games have seen both teams score. The last three clashes have produced just two goals.

Likely XIs

After a 4-0 hammering at Aston Villa last time out, Frank Lampard will look to reinforce the Derby defence. Jayden Bogle could come back in at right-back.

Harry Wilson also looks set to return to the starting XI after missing out against Villa.

Paul Cook may be tempted to bring joint-top scorer Joe Garner into the side alongside Leon Clarke up front. He was on the bench for last week’s 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough.

Nick Powell looks likely to miss out again as he recovers from a hamstring problem. With plenty of football left to play, it’s not worth risking him if he’s not fully fit.

Key Battles

Derby have looked to play slick, passing football under Lampard, but the goals have dried up recently. They’ve only scored once in their last four league games.

Can they break down a Wigan side that haven’t been shipping many goals? With Mason Mount out injured, they’ll look to Wilson to drive them forward.

The visitors should set up with five across midfield. They’ll look to crowd Derby out in the middle and hit them on the break. But their strikers will need support from the midfield if they’re going to get a result.

Match Odds

Our traders have Derby as even-money favourites, with Wigan back at 16/5. There’s 23/10 about the draw.

It’s 5/6 that this match follows the pattern of recent meetings with Both Teams to Score – No, with Under 1.5 Goals a 2/1 shot.

After bagging the only goal in the previous clash, Marriott is 7/2 to open the scoring here. Fellow forward Martyn Waghorn is 8/5 to net anytime.

We make Garner 3/1 to get his sixth league goal of the campaign for Wigan, with Clarke slightly shorter at 14/5 as any anytime goalscorer.
