Bayern Munich v Liverpool Betting Tips: Who’ll make it to the quarter-finals?

| 13.03.2019

Odds and preview for Champions League clash

After a tense 0-0 draw at Anfield last month, it’s all to play for when Bayern Munich face Liverpool in the second-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie tonight.

And with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid all eliminated, the competition could open up for whoever comes out on top.

It gets underway at 8:00pm on BT Sport 2, but we’ve got all the pre-match info for you right here…

These clubs have five European Cup/Champions League wins apiece, but they’ve only faced each other eight times prior to kick-off tonight.

Last month’s draw at Anfield was the first meeting since the European Super Cup in 2001, which saw Liverpool win 3-2.

It does tend to be hard to split these sides. Of those eight games, five have ended in a draw. Liverpool have won two, with just one win for the German side.

Likely XIs

Bayern v Liverpool teams

Niko Kovac is likely to stick with most of the side that started the first leg. However, he’ll be without Kingsley Coman and Joshua Kimmich tonight.

Franck Ribery will line up in Coman’s spot. If David Alaba is fit enough to start, Rafinha is set to fill in at right-back. If not, the Brazilian should move over to the left, with Jerome Boateng likely to cover on the other flank.

Naby Keita wasn’t fit enough to travel for Liverpool. But he may have been benched for this game anyway. Georginio Wijnaldum’s industry than could be more important than Keita’s flair in a tough away game.

Key Battles

How adventurous are Liverpool’s full-back’s going to be? The flanks could be a weak spot for Bayern with Kimmich out and Alaba a doubt. But they won’t want to leave space for Ribery and Gnabry to exploit.

Klopp’s midfield trio will work very hard to minimise Thiago Alcantara and James Rodriguez’s influence. If they can’t dictate play, Bayern will struggle to create chances.

But there isn’t much invention in that midfield trio. If the front three can’t come up with a moment of magic, expect Jurgen Klopp to bring on either Xherdan Shaqiri or Adam Lallana in the second-half to add some creativity.

Match Odds

Does home advantage swing things in Bayern’s favour? Our traders seem to think so. Bayern are 23/20 favourites, with Liverpool not too far behind at 5/2.

It’s also 5/2 for the scores to remain level after 90 minutes, with a 0-0 repeat a 10/1 shot.

But with Liverpool chasing a crucial away goal, there’s 7/10 about Both Teams to Score.

As for who’ll get those goals, it’s no surprise to see Robert Lewandowski heading the First Goalscorer betting at 3/1. He’s also 23/20 to net anytime.

Former Arsenal man Gnabry is 21/10 to net for the third game running.

Liverpool will be looking for a big game from Mohamed Salah. We make him 2/1 to end his five-game barren spell.

Sadio Mane has four goals in his last three appearances. The Senegalese star is 11/5 to keep up his hot streak with another goal.
