Wednesday’s Championship Betting Tips: Will Norwich drop points?
Odds and tips ahead of tonight’s Championship action
After West Bromwich Albion dropped points last night, Norwich City, Leeds United and Sheffield United will all be hoping to steal a march at the top of the Championship this evening.
The trio make up the focus of this evening’s tips, which also includes Derby County’s trip to Ipswich Town and Brentford v Aston Villa. You can watch Villa’s trip to Griffin Park live on Sky Sports Main Event from 7:45pm.
Preston North End v Norwich City
Norwich used to have a reputation as late finishers. Now it’s their ability to start fast which is turning heads. The Canaries have found the net inside the opening 15 minutes in each of their last four Championship matches, including in recent victories over Ipswich and Leeds.
That leads us to Norwich to be ahead after 15 minutes at 13/2. The goals are unlikely to stop there, though. Deepdale has seen the net bulge 51 times at either end this term. Both Teams to Score is 8/13, with Over 3.5 Goals at 3/1.
Daniel Farke’s men are 15/8 favourites to win the match, although North End are stubborn opponents on their own turf and are 12/5 to come away with an eighth home draw of the season.
Brentford v Aston Villa
As last week’s 3-3 draw with Sheffield United proved, matches involving Villa are rarely dull. In fact their fixtures this season have produced a league-high 105 goals. Over 3.5 Goals here is 7/5.
The Villans also have 14 draws to their name this season, including eight in their last 15 games. With these sides looking evenly matched, the Coral traders go 27/10 about the Draw and 15/2 about the Draw and Over 2.5 Goals.
A repeat of the 2-2 scoreline between the sides from late-August is 10/1.
Ipswich Town v Derby County
It’s difficult to see any light at the end of the tunnel for Ipswich. The Tractor Boys are 10 points from safety at the bottom of the table and have won just five matches in the league since March 2013.
A visit from Derby is unlikely to herald an upturn in form. Frank Lampard’s men are playing some excellent football and have won on each of their last four visits to Portman Road.
They’re 20/23 for success tonight, with a Win to Nil against the goal-shy hosts at 2/1. On-fire Martyn Waghorn is 2/1 for his fifth goal in seven outings.
Leeds United v Swansea City
Are Leeds falling apart again? Marcelo Bielsa will hope not. But the Argentine needs to see an upturn in results if his side are to keep up with Norwich. Two wins in seven matches isn’t promotion form.
It might not get any easier tonight. Visitors Swansea are enjoying their best run of the season and head to Yorkshire with striker Ollie McBurnie bang in form.
The ginger maestro has five goals in his last five matches and is 2/1 to bag again. Swansea are 21/5 to win the match, against 7/10 for Leeds and 29/10 about the draw. The tough-as-teak Swans are 5/4 on the Double Chance.
Sheffield United v Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough are quietly going about their business under Tony Pulis. The Teesiders may be seven points off Leeds in second but they’ve only lost once against any of the sides above them this term.
That suggests this could be a close run thing, with the draw at 9/4. Billy Sharp netted a hat-trick last week and is 6/4 to bag again here, while Britt Assombalonga is 12/5 for the visitors. You can back Under 2.5 Goals at 8/13, with a 1-1 stalemate priced at 11/2.
