Odds and preview of Millennium Stadium clash

With two games gone in the 2019 Six Nations, it’s England and Wales who have the 100% win records. But something’s got to give on Saturday.

The sides face off at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium – live from 4:45pm on BBC One – in a tussle which could end up defining the tournament.

Ahead of the big game, we’ve got all the odds and info…

Head-to-Head

Recent clashes between these sides have almost all gone the way of England. They’ve won six of the last seven – though most have been very tight. Only one of those half-dozen wins has come by 10+ points.

The last two clashes at the Millennium Stadium have each been Six Nations games – and both have ended in 21-16 wins for the visitors. Could lightning strike thrice with that scoreline?

However, it was Twickenham which hosted the most recent meeting, in October 2018. England edged a nervy game 12-6, with Jonny May bagging both Tries.

Key Battles

England could well target Wales fly-half Gareth Anscombe. The Cardiff Blues man had an absolutely torrid first-half when they trailed 16-0 against France in the first game, and could have another difficult day here.

One thing the visitors need to avoid is giving away penalties. Wales kicker Dan Biggar has been in ruthless form, and scored all four of his penalties to secure the 26-15 win over Italy last time out.

For Wales, it has to be about stopping May. He’s already on four Tries in this year’s Six Nations, and absolutely ran France ragged at Twickenham a fortnight ago. His speed and agility could prove pivotal in what’s likely to be a tight game.

The fit-again Ben Te’o has been overlooked by Jones for this game, with Manu Tuilagi impressing in his return to the side. Alongside Henry Slade, he gives the English a real physical core.

Match Odds

In the Match Betting, England are 1/2 favourites to see off Warren Gatland’s hosts. Meanwhile, it’s 15/8 for a Welsh victory, and 20/1 about the Tie.

Most recent meetings have seen narrow English wins. We go 7/2 they win by 1-5 points, while an England win by 6-10 points is 4/1.

May bagged a try within two minutes against France. He’s 7/1 to be First Tryscorer in Cardiff, and 5/6 for a Try Anytime.

The hosts’ biggest threat could be Northampton Saints ace George North at 11/5 Anytime.
