Serie A Preview: Can Inter cement their top-four spot?

Odds and tips for this weekend’s Italian action

Serie A returns this weekend with a set of fixtures that could have a big say in who secures the European spots this term.

Our look ahead to the action starts at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, where Inter Milan are chasing a crucial win against Fiorentina.

Fiorentina v Inter (Sunday 7:30)

Mauro Icardi has dominated the news since being stripped of the Inter captaincy. The striker is set to miss out again here, with Lautaro Martinez likely to lead the line in his absence.

Our traders just about have Inter as 8/5 favourites. But La Viola haven’t lost any of their last four home games against the Nerazzurri – you can back them at 17/10 to win or 4/9 in the double chance.

Clean sheets have been hard to come by in league action for both sides since the turn of the year. And it’s even-money that they produce Over 2.5 Goals for the seventh time in eight meetings.

Torino v Atalanta (Saturday, 2:00pm)

Atalanta are looking to close the four-point gap to the top four here. And you can usually rely on them to be entertaining.

Only Juventus (52) have scored more goals than the Bergamo-based side (51). No top-half team has let in more goals either (34).

There’s 7/2 about Atalanta and Both Sides to Score, with Colombian hot-shot Duvan Zapata 13/10 favourite to get on the scoresheet.

Bologna v Juventus (Sunday, 2:00pm)

How will Juventus respond to their Champions League setback? Europe seemed to be their priority this season. But a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid gives them a mountain to climb.

Even so, you’d fancy them against relegation-battling Bologna on auto-pilot. The champions are 4/9 for a seventh-straight win over the hosts. And after beating Bologna 2-0 both at home and in the cup this season, we go 11/2 for the hat-trick.

Cristiano Ronaldo is 21/10 to take out his mid-week frustration with the first goal.

Blaise Matuidi likes facing Bologna too. He’s scored in two of his previous three appearances against the Rossoblu. We make him 4/1 to get another this time.

Best of the rest

The weekend’s action kicks-off with AC Milan at home to Empoli. The Rossoneri are 5/4 to win to nil against a side that still haven’t won on the road this season. Krzysztof Piatek is also 9/5 to keep up his hot streak with two or more goals.

Napoli seem safe in second, with a 13-point gap to the teams above and below them. But even if the Europa League becomes their priority, they should beat a Parma side without a home win since November. We go 13/5 for Napoli and Under 2.5 Goals.
