Odds and preview of crucial Prem clash

There could hardly be more on the line for Manchester City and Chelsea as the pair face off at the Etihad – live on Sky Sports Premier League from 4pm.

The Citizens are looking to boost their title defence, with Liverpool faltering of late. As for the Blues, they need the points to keep up their top-four bid, with resurgent Manchester United on their tail.

Ahead of this crucial clash, we’ve got all the odds and info on the sides…

Head-to-Head

After back-to-back Premier League wins, either side of a Community Shield win, City’s dominance was finally ended in December 2018’s clash at Stamford Bridge.

Maurizio Sarri’s side pulled off a 2-0 victory, as City endured their first Prem defeat of the season. A pair of unlikely goalscorers did the damage, in N’Golo Kante and David Luiz.

One man who regularly makes the difference in this fixture is Sergio Aguero. He’s netted five times in his last five Prem outings against the West London club.

Likely XIs

These sides could well line up with matching systems. Both sides tend to favour an attack-minded 4-3-3.

Having been rested for the Everton game (with a cameo in the closing minutes), Kevin De Bruyne is likely to be part of the hosts’ midfield trio, alongside Fernandinho and David Silva.

Defender Aymeric Laporte grabbed his first goal at the Etihad in midweek, after three on the road this term. He’s could start at left-back again, with John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi at centre-back.

The visitors have upgraded their striking options since the last meeting. Gonzalo Higuain is set to lead the line, with Eden Hazard and Willian providing the wing wizardry.

Further back, Ruben Loftus-Cheek could return to the starting XI alongside Kante and Jorginho in that midfield threesome.

Key Battles

If the Blues are to get anything from their trip up North, they’ll need to stop the Sterling-Sane link-up. Four of the German’s 11 goals this term have been assisted by the pacy England international.

That’s as well as the threat of Aguero, of course. He’s absolutely lethal in this fixture, so the Chelsea backline will really have their hands full.

Higuain bagged a brace in last weekend’s clash with Huddersfield Town. While this is a much tougher fixture, he’ll undoubtedly cause the hosts more problems than Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea are among the top sides for number of crosses this term, with more than the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Man United. With a genuine target to hit in their frontline now, the hosts will need to keep Hazard and Willian quiet out wide.

Match Odds

Having won 15 of their last 16 home games in all competitions, City are 1/2 to continue that streak. Meanwhile, it’s 10/3 for the Draw and 11/2 for a Chelsea victory.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won five games by a 2-1 scoreline this term, and another 2-1 here is 7/1. Meanwhile, a simple Both Teams to Score is 8/11.

It’s no surprise to see Aguero topping the Anytime Scorer market at 4/6. Meanwhile, the Argentine ace is 3/1 to bag Two or More Goals.

Chelsea have Higuain at 23/10 Anytime, with an identical price on Hazard. Meanwhile, if you fancy a dark horse, Laporte is 17/2 to add to his tally.
