The latest insight from the Tizzard stables
Firstly we have an update on the Coral Champions Club horse, Battle Of Ideas.
We really did think he would win at Huntingdon last weekend, so were mystified by his run, but we’ve since had him checked out and it turns out one side of his larynx is paralysed, which explains his performance clearly!
He’s booked in to have a soft palate operation next week, and he’ll be back working in a few weeks, and we can then look forward to a spring and early summer campaign with him.
We’re pleased we’ve got to the bottom of this, and we all feel slightly bad as we were calling him a few names after Huntingdon!
Saturday – Chepstow
Highest Sun was bought with a good reputation, and he’s working out of his skin at the moment, he’s the best we’ve had him looking, I’m expecting a big run from him.
He’ll love Chepstow’s galloping two miles, he’s a nice horse and I think he’s got a big chance.
Two miles is possibly not quite far enough for Shanahan’s Turn.
He’s a good ground Spring horse and we’ve got the Topham in mind for him, so this is very much a prep for Aintree, over a trip that’s shorter than he ideally wants.
Sunday – Fontwell
Vision Des Flos ran really well at Wincanton last weekend, he kept on galloping, and so 2 ½ miles on good ground at Fontwell should suit him well.
He’s not turned out to be Champion Hurdle class, so this Grade 2 should be his level and I’m expecting a nice run.
We run three in the Novice hurdle. Black Centaur won his only Irish point-to-point but has been a bit disappointing.
He got stuck in the mud at Sandown last time and he’ll get handicapped after this run, basically he’s learning his job.
Mister Majic has been off for a long time with a leg injury, he’s had two runs over hurdles and will need this run.
But it’s good to have him back on the course, he’s another one that will get his handicap mark after this and we’ll go from there.
Helford River is a really nice, progressive young horse who is certainly going the right way. He’s a chaser in the making, is growing all the time, and we think quite a bit of him, he would be the best of the three here.
Coastal Drift has been given a reasonable handicap mark, and so he’s probably better off running in handicaps than he is taking on 140 rated horses in novice races.
He’s a big baby who is progressing all the time, but his mark looks fair, no more, he’s certainly not been thrown in here.
