Betting preview, odds and info for Players Champ

The second event in the 2019 Coral Cup gets underway from the Preston Guild Hall on Monday 4th March, as the top-16 players in the world face off in the Coral Players Championship.

All the usual faces will be there, including Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby and Coral Grand Prix winner Judd Trump. But who will come out on top in Lancashire? We’ve got the first round odds, outright betting and Coral Cup lowdown.

Players Championship first round odds

Trump, O’Sullivan and Neil Robertson are all heavily odds-on to make it through their respective first round matches, while Kyren Wilson and Jack Lisowski go head-to-head in one of the most exciting match-ups. The former is 4/7 to beat the latter at 11/8, with Mark Allen at 8/15 when he takes on Stephen Maguire.

But it’s Selby’s clash with John Higgins which is the standout tie. Both players are former world champions, and as such it should be a close-fought affair. The Jester from Leicester is the narrow favourite at 8/11, with Higgins slightly further back at 11/10.

Coral Players Championship outright odds

You’ve seen the draw and first round odds. Now what about the outright betting? No prizes for guessing O’Sullivan is the runaway 11/4 favourite.

The Rocket has won three of the eight tournaments he’s shown up at this year, although he did suffer a first round defeat at the Coral World Grand Prix in January.

Trump comes next at 3/1. The Juddernaut is the form pick after 2019 victories in The Masters and the World Grand Prix. The Bristolian-cuesmith has been poetry in motion of late with his brand of quick-fire snooker and supreme long-potting ability. There’s no question he’s the one to beat.

There’s then a jump to Welsh Open winner and two-time Players Champ finalist Robertson at 17/2, with the out-of-form Selby at 9/1. Exciting youngster Wilson is a lively outsider at 12/1, alongside Allen and Stuart Bingham at the same price, and Mark Williams at 14/1.

What happened in the Coral World Grand Prix?

The Coral Grand Prix was a hard-fought seven-day affair, although O’Sullivan would probably rather forget it. The Rocket was dumped out in the first round by Marco Fu.

Eventual finalists Ali Carter and Judd Trump both played fantastic snooker throughout. But it was The Ace in the Pack who triumphed 10-6 after racking up a 6-3 lead in the afternoon session.

Trump has enjoyed a stellar year on the tour and has won the Coral World Grand Prix along with The Masters and the Northern Ireland Open. Can he add to that success in the Coral Players Championship?
