Norwich v Birmingham Betting Tips: Canaries to give visitors the Blues?
Odds and in-depth look at Championship clash
There’s plenty at stake in East Anglia tonight, as third-placed Norwich City host a Birmingham City side sitting just four points off the Championship play-offs.
While both have big hopes this season, neither are in great form. The injury-hit Canaries are winless in four, while Blues are three games without victory.
Can either get back on the winning trail at Carrow Road? We’ve got all the odds and info for you…
Norwich fans have been the happier set after recent meetings. The Canaries have won three of the last four meetings, drawing the other.
What’s more, you have to go way back to March 2002 to find the last time Blues won in Norfolk – courtesy of a Tommy Mooney winner.
Both sides have been high-scoring this term, and that was reflected in their clash at St Andrew’s on the opening weekend. Norwich twice came from behind to snatch a 2-2 draw.
Daniel Farke has been forced into chop and change mode of late, with a string of key men sidelined. The talismanic Timm Klose is injured again, which likely means a return for Grant Hanley alongside Christoph Zimmermann at centre-back.
One thing unlikely to change is Farke’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system. With Alexander Tettey also on the treatment table, it could be a trio of Todd Cantwell, Marco Stiepermann and Onel Hernandez tucked behind the prolific Teemu Pukki.
Birmingham are a 4-4-2 outfit under Garry Monk. Up top, the in-form Che Adams is likely to partner experienced target-man Lukas Jutkiewicz.
Veteran Craig Gardner has begun to work his way back into the side of late, and could sit in the centre of midfield alongside Maikel Kieftenbeld.
Awareness and energy will be the big factors in determining how Blues’ defence cope with the tireless, clinical Pukki. Six of his 16 goals this term have come in the 80th minute or later – so the visitors’ defence will switch off at their peril.
The visitors’ main threat could come out wide. With Norwich sporting a makeshift backline, the pace of Jota and strength of Jacques Maghoma out wide could rattle the Canaries’ cage.
Ahead of kick-off, Norwich are 10/11 favourites for victory. However, four of their five losses this term have come at Carrow Road. Birmingham are 16/5 to be the latest away side to win here, with the Draw at 5/2.
Goals are the order of the day when the Canaries are involved. Of their 27 league games this term, 10 have seen four or more goals hit the net.
We go 9/4 for another round of Over 3.5 Goals, while a Norwich Win and Both Teams to Score is 29/10.
No surprises at the top of the scorer markets. Pukki is 6/5 Anytime, while the Finn’s habit for a late strike makes him 10/3 as Last Goalscorer.
For Monk’s men, Adams has netted 13 of their 39 goals this season. The former Sheffield United man is 2/1 to notch in Norfolk.
