Odds and preview ahead of Premier League grudge match

Liverpool versus Manchester United is one of the Premier League’s fiercest rivalries.

This rivalry is steeped in history but United have extra incentive to score a rare win over their North-West neighbours.

It’s the Merseysiders who go into the game unbeaten and top of the league, but is Jose Mourinho capable of coming up with a plan to silence their oldest rivals?

Head-to-Head

There were four successive draws in all competitions between the pair before Man United’s 2-1 home win in March of this year.

The two-legged Europa League tie in 2016-17 saw Liverpool come through 3-1 on aggregate.

Mourinho frustrated Jurgen Klopp with two 0-0 draws in the last few years. It could be a similar story this afternoon.

Likely XIs

Liverpool vs Man United - Football tactics and formations
Klopp faces an injury crisis in defence, with Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold joining Joe Gomez on the treatment table.

Fabinho may have to come in at right back which means a midfield three of Naby Keita, Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson.

When on form the front-three names itself, so Mohamed Salah should line-up alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

United are facing similar problems at the back. November player of the month Victor Lindelof is still out so Phil Jones and Eric Bailly could continue at the heart of the defence.

Paul Pogba may have to make do with a spot among the substitutes.

Key Battles

As both look to re-shuffle their defences it could be the midfield where this is won and lost.

Keita is starting to adapt to the pace of the Premier League.

Wijnaldum and Henderson have a good blend of poise and tenacity. But they could be amongst the land of giants up against United’s Marouane Fellaini and Nemanja Matic.

Anthony Martial has come to the party this season and Marcus Rashford will hope his goal against Valencia is a sign of things to come.

Juan Mata could come up with another match-winning performance like he did in March 2015.

Match Odds

Liverpool are 8/15 for victory and remain the only unbeaten side left in the Premier League.

But United are 5/1 to win and be the scourge of the Kop again. Yet another draw between the pair is 16/5.

You’re looking at 14/1 for another 0-0 stalemate.

Salah is 5/6 to bag anytime. Divock Origi scored a clutch winner against Everton and is 9/2 to notch last.

Marcus Rashford has been the match winner in this fixture before. The England international is 14/5 to score at any point in the match.
