British pair in action and ready to star

The last two quarter-finals in the Super Series takes place in Glasgow on Saturday night.

British lightweight Josh Taylor is in action against American fighter Ryan Martin.

Also on the card is Belfast’s Super World Bantamweight champion Ryan Burnett.

He faces former four-weight world champ Nonito Donaire.

You can catch all the action on the official World Boxing Super Series YouTube channel on Saturday.

A semi-final spot early next year is up for grabs and we run through who could come out on top…

Josh Taylor v Ryan Martin

Taylor feels “like King Kong” and is “super confident” ahead of his fight with Martin.

The Scot and American put their unbeaten records on the line for the right to face Ivan Baranchyk.

Taylor is ranked second in the world at super lightweight. He has beaten domestic rival Ohara Davies, former champ Miguel Vasquez and most recently defeated veteran Viktor Postol.

Martin is an unknown quantity at this level. His 22-0 win record cannot be sniffed at even if he hasn’t faced any of the elite yet.

Taylor is right to go into this one feeling confident but Martin could spring a surprise.

Ryan Burnett v Nonito Donaire

Some are billing this bout the stand-out tie in this Champions League-esque knock-out competition.

Burnett is well-placed to become a star in this tournament.

Since dominating Lee Haskins to earn the IBF title in 2017, he palmed off Zhanat Zhakiyanov to add the WBA strap. In Burnett’s next fight he successfully defended his belts against Yonfrez Parejo in March.

This will be a stiff test for the Brit though. Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire is well known around the circuit and in his prime was on top of many people’s pound for pound list.

In his last bout he left with his reputation intact after a hard-fought defeat to Carl Frampton.

However after not fighting at bantamweight in seven years, this could be a massive factor in the outcome of the game.

The Odds

Taylor goes into this one as the 1/12 favourite to advance to the last four.

This one could go to the latter rounds with Martin looking to prove himself at this level.

The Brit is 7/12 to win between round 7 and 12.

Martin to announce himself with a win is 13/2 to bag the victory.

As for Burnett, his experience at this weight could be a huge factor. The 26-year-old’s 7/4 to win by KO, TKO or DQ.

Donaire to win outright is 5/1. The Filipino Flash is 9/1 to take it by Decision or Technical Decision.
