We look back over the weekend’s action

It was a big weekend of sports, with plenty to discuss in football, rugby union and tennis.

Manchester City won again to stay top of the Premier League, but we start with the weekend’s biggest top-flight clash at the Emirates…

Emery’s approach starting to pay off at Arsenal

Arsenal may have only drawn with Liverpool on Saturday, but they’ll take real belief for their display.

Games against the big sides have been harrowing experiences for the Gunners in recent years. They rose to the challenge this time.

Emery has got his side playing with real intensity. And they have resilience too. No top-flight side has won more points after going behind than them this season (8). They’re now 13/10 to secure a top-four spot.

Lamela leading the way for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur climbed back into the top four with their 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. They’re 4/6 to still be there at the end of the campaign.

Erik Lamela played a key role at Molineux, scoring one and playing a part in the visitor’s other two goals. He’s now been directly involved in 11 goals in his last 12 appearances for the North Londoners.

With Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen both struggling with injuries lately and Son Heung-Min going through a goal drought, Spurs needed Lamela to step up. He hasn’t disappointed. This has arguably been his best run of form during his time in England.

Can Dortmund keep it up?

Borussia Dortmund have thrilled their fans this season with sensational attacking play, but they had to dig in to secure a 1-0 win over Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Lucien Favre’s side are now four points clear at the top of the table. They’ve scored the most goals in the Bundesliga (30) and conceded the second-least (10).

They’re 23/10 to beat Bayern Munich at home this weekend. A win could be a big step towards ending Bayern’s six-year dominance of the division.

England cling on to beat South Africa

England’s inexperienced side held on start the Autumn Internationals with a 12-11 win over South Africa.

Four of Eddie Jones’ starters were making their home debuts. It’s not entirely surprising that the Springboks totally controlled the opening half. But England fought back to make this a thrilling encounter in the second period.

There was a late scare when Owen Farrell’s tackle on Andre Esterhuizen went to a video review. But the referee decided there was nothing wrong with it.

England will still need to improve if they’re going to beat New Zealand next week. The World Cup is fast approaching and they’ll want to make winning a habit. Owen’s side are 7/1 to go all the way in Japan.

Djokovic’s winning streak ends with shock defeat

Since crashing out of the French Open, Novak Djokovic has won two Grand Slams and two Masters titles. He’d won 22 games in a row heading into Sunday’s Paris Masters final against Karen Khachanov.

But he fell to the Russian in a shock 7-5, 6-4 defeat. Djokovic was outclassed by Khachanov, possibly a result of his three-hour epic against Roger Federer the day before.

Despite losing, Djokovic has regained top spot in the rankings. And he’ll hope to resume his dominance in the upcoming ATP Finals, before starting the new season with Australian Open glory. We go 11/8 that he wins a record seventh title in Melboune.
