Weekend racing odds and preview

There’s something for everyone on ITV4 this afternoon, with flat racing from Doncaster and jumps action from Aintree and Wincanton.

The Badger Ales Trophy is the standout betting heat, where Paul Nicholls is aiming for his fifth winner since 2008. Can he saddle El Bandit or Present Man to victory? Or will there be a shock from further down the field?

We’ve previewed that contest, along with seven others, including the Elite Hurdle and the November Handicap, in our ITV Racing Tips.

Ramses De Teillee – 3:35 Wincanton

Trainers across the country have been doing a rain dance for a few weeks now. And for David Pipe, the heavens have opened at just the right time. He saddles Ramses De Teillee as he bids to land the Badger Ales Trophy for the fifth time since 2008 and a ninth time overall.

The six-year-old enjoyed a bright start to his chasing career last term before tailing off against better company at Cheltenham in his last two runs. This should be slightly easier for the son of Martaline, who is expected to run even better after undergoing wind surgery in the close season. Connections are confident, and so are we over 3m 1f.

Buzz – 3:15 Doncaster

It usually pays to stick near the top of the market in the November Handicap. Six of the last ten winners have come through at a single-digit price. That leads us to ante-post favourite, Buzz.

Hughie Morrison’s progressive four-year-old has impressed this term and recently put in a career best effort to win at Newbury. A 5lb rise for that success shouldn’t be beyond the Motivator gelding, who is stepped back up to 1m 4f, where he’s one from one so far.

A wide draw should also benefit the raider, as will any potential ease in the ground should the rain come. After such a strong finish at Newbury, Buzz gets the nod again here at Doncaster.

We Have A Dream – 3:00 Wincanton

An exciting renewal of the Elite Hurdle could see We Have A Dream eclipse market rivals Verdana Blue and If The Cap Fits. Nicky Henderson’s French recruit enjoyed a six-race unbeaten season as a juvenile, including success in a pair of Grade 1 contests.

This is tougher than his Aintree triumph in April. But the signs are that the four-year-old has the scope to improve further and take on the big boys. He gets the nod in what should be an ultra-competitive 1m 7f contest.
