Odds and preview ahead of tonight’s encounter

Newcastle United will be looking to make it three wins on the spin when they visit Turf Moor tonight.

Rafael Benitez’s side upturn in form sees them sit above Burnley, albeit on goal difference, after two successive wins.

Burnley are in need of a win and Sean Dyche could shuffle his pack to ensure they grab the three points.

You can watch tonight’s tussle from 8:00pm on Sky Sports Premier League, but hang about here for all the match odds ahead of the big match…

Head-to-Head

Burnley were flying high in the league last season and they picked up four points from their encounters with the Magpies.

Jeff Hendrick’s 74th minute strike settled the tie at Turf Moor.

In fact, after a pair of draws in the 2014-15 season, you have to go back to the 6th November 1983 in the old Division Two for the last time Newcastle beat the Clarets.

For you football historians amongst us, Kevin Keegan, Imre Varadi and Chris Waddle scored in a 3-0 win.

Likely XIs

Burnley vs Newcastle United - Football tactics and formations
James Tarkowski is still sidelined for the home side, but Johann Berg Gudmunsson has recovered from a calf problem.

The influential Stephen Defour’s return to the first team could be a timely one.

Dyche could partner Sam Vokes and Chris Wood in a bustling attack. Aaron Lennon and Robbie Brady should be the wing-men.

Benitez will be sweating on the fitness of captain Jamaal Lascelles, midfielder Jonjo Shelvey and Yoshinori Muto.

Salomon Rondon’s brace against Bournemouth should ensure he starts up front for the Toon.

Fabian Schar should continue deputising if Lascelles is not ready.

Key Battles

Mohamed Diame and Ki Sung-Yeung will do battle with a Burnley midfield of Jack Cork and Jeff Hendrick.

But it could be on the flanks where the game is won and lost.

Burnley fans will be buoyed by the recent return of Brady. But Newcastle’s attacking trio includes Kenedy and Ayoze Perez who can make the difference.

Rondon is beginning to show he can be a true Newcastle number-nine. But Burnley’s Vokes will be keen to return to his best from last season.

Match odds

Newcastle may be in better form than Burnley but are not a fan of Monday nights.

They’re 13/8 to win only their second game on the road on a Monday night in their last 13 attempts.

Burnley kept the back door shut for the first time since the opening day of the season against Leicester City.

The Clarets are 19/10 to win outright and 7/2 to win to nil.

A second draw in a row between the pair is 17/5.

Rondon to fire yet another goal is 11/5 anytime.

Perez to draw first blood for the Toon is 7/1.

Chris Wood to score and Burnley to win is 4/1. Hendrick to score against Newcastle yet again is 4/1 anytime.
