Coral round up the weekend of sport

The Premier League may have taken a back seat this week but there was a host of international football, cricket and even an NFL game played at Wembley.

England won the second one-day international against Sri Lanka in the cricket, meanwhile Germany lost again, this time against the Netherlands.

The Coral News Team have looked at some of the most talked about action from the world of sport this weekend.

Germany are not great at football right now

Die Mannschaft have looked disjointed ever since their group-stage exit at the World Cup last summer.

There have been ploys to try to re-address their upward momentum but so far there’s been little effect.

The 2014 World Cup winners have looked disjointed, playing Joshua Kimmich back in midfield to try to find a new way of playing.

Their draw with France is nothing to be ashamed of but after being embarrassed 3-0 by the Netherlands on Saturday, the pressure has been ramped up even more.

Is this the start of the Netherlands’ resurgence?

Whilst Germany are struggling for form, Holland sent out a message to the rest of Europe ahead of the European Championships in 2020.

Their absence from the World Cup meant they failed to qualify for their second major championships in a row.

However, since Ronald Koeman took over as boss, they’ve lost just two games in seven.

The Germany win feels quite like a watershed moment for the team. With a young core of talent finding their feet, Holland might become Brilliant Orange yet again.

Wigan Warriors win again

Old Trafford hosted an exciting Rugby League Grand-Final as Wigan Warriors came from behind to beat Warrington Wolves.

The Warriors ran out 12-4 winners in the end to secure a fifth Grand-Final win.

This was a big moment for Wigan and represented a changing of the guard, with head coach Shane Wane and star man Sam Tomkins headlining a five-man leaving party.

Seahawks raid Oakland in the NFL

The NFL returned to Wembley on Sunday as fans of the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders descended on the North-West of London.

Unfortunately for their supporters, the Raiders didn’t really show up and eventually lost 27-3 to the Seahawks.

The Raiders defence was a notable flaw and are still seeking their second win of the season in their most humiliating defeat to date.

That was the Seahawks third win of the campaign. They were just too good on the day.

Morgan and Root star with the bat against Sri Lanka

England one-day captain Eoin Morgan hit a score of 92 from 91 balls as England hit 278 to beat Sri Lanka by 31 runs.

Joe Root in at number three ran up a 71 to see a third-wicket partnership with Morgan bag a score of 162.

Morgan has been able to fine-tune his one-day game since retiring from the Test game in February 2018.

The result put England 1-0 up in the series, but can they extend their lead in the third ODI coming up on Wednesday in Kandy?

The test series begins on Tuesday 6th November.
