Tom Scudamore: “One Touch is fancied for Chepstow on Sunday”
Coral ambassador talks Thistlecrack, Books and Chepstow
Thistlecrack
It was great to school Thistlecrack on Wednesday down at the Tizzards’ stable. He feels really good , much more forward than at any stage last season. He was tremendous.
I’m very excited for him and looking forward to getting him back on track. It’s not long now.
The Season Ahead
It’s a really exciting time and everyone’s so positive because everything is possible.
There’ll be horses that finished down the field in bumpers last season that will suddenly step up and run well over hurdles, and horses that were well beaten last term in novice hurdles that suddenly improve for going over fences.
It’s that exciting time of year. They are all unbeaten at the moment.
I feel that I’m on about par for the number of winners I’ve ridden over the summer and I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.
I have some nice novices to ride for David Pipe and my brother Michael has the best part of 50 horses this season. There are some big stables that I’ll have rides for so I’m feeling really positive.
The Scudamores’ – published this week
I really enjoyed doing this book, and I know my Dad found it really cathartic to talk about Grandad.
It’s not an autobiography but more of a history of the family involvement in horse racing and I really hope people enjoy reading it.
Saturday – Chepstow
I went to school her the other day. She jumped well. She won around Chepstow and was then 4th in a Listed bumper up at Aintree so comes in with some very good form.
If she can transfer her bumper form to hurdles, and I see no reason why she won’t, then she has an outstanding chance.
He had a great season last term. This is a really nice spare to pick up and I’m hoping he can pick up where he left off last year.
Sunday – Chepstow
He ran okay at Cartmel in the summer. He’s a horse that had a couple of falls last year which may have knocked his confidence. He’s going to have to build on that encouraging run last time out.
This is always a good bumper but Michael is very sweet on his horse.
He won an Irish Point to Point impressively last year when for a long way he looked very, green and it didn’t look like it was going to happen, and then he went and won.
Michael is very happy with him and thinks an awful lot of him. This horse is fancied.
