Could rising star land Flat Jockeys’ Championship?

Jason Watson’s odds of becoming next year’s Champion Jockey have been in freefall. The Champion apprentice has been heavily backed for glory in the 2019 Flat Jockeys’ Championship.

Watson began at odds of 100/1, but has been repeatedly cut and now finds himself at just 16/1 for the title – placing him joint-fifth in the running.

As it stands, 2018 winner Silvestre de Sousa at 4/9 is firm favourite to retain his title. Meanwhile, 4/1 shot Oisin Murphy and Coral Ambassador and 2016 winner Jim Crowley (9/1) are also both in single figures.

James Doyle is a 10/1 shot, while Danny Tudhope at 16/1 is level in the betting with Watson.

Meanwhile, Italian Andrea Atzeni is a 20/1 shot, with former Champion apprentice William Buick at 25/1.
