Look ahead to this year’s showdown

It’s been 102 years since the Boston Red Sox and LA Dodgers competed for the World Series, but now they’ll go head-to-head once again.

The Dodgers were still plying their trade in Brooklyn and were known as the Robins back then, while Babe Ruth was just beginning to redefine the game and become a household name with the Red Sox.

World Series odds

Boston won that series 4-1 and they go into this one as 8/13 favourites to win the first-to-four Baseball World Series for the first time since 2013 and the ninth overall.

The Dodgers, managed by one-time Red Sox ace Dave Roberts, are six-time champions but are seeking to end a 30-year wait.

They’re the 13/10 outsiders, but have plenty of reason to feel invigorated, having gone down 4-3 to the Houston Astros in last year’s World Series.

World Series teams

Alex Cora’s Red Sox have been the standout side all year.

They posted a sensational MLB-best 108-54 record in the regular season. It was a franchise record too and was some margin better than the Dodgers’ 92-71.

Boston pretty much topped every offensive statistic this season, and they continued their form into the post-season, seeing off old foes the New York Yankees 3-1 in the American League Division Series.

They followed that up by trouncing last year’s champions the Astros 4-1 in the Championship Series.

Both defeated sides won several games more than the Dodgers this year, which hints at what might be to come over the final seven games of the year.

LA’s playoff path saw them down Atlanta Braves 3-1 in the Division stage, before a nail-biting 4-3 Championship success over Milwaukee Brewers.
