| 12.10.2018

Preview, odds and tips of Nations League clash

England and Croatia lock horns once again, just over three months after the pair’s dramatic World Cup semi-final clash.

Gareth Southgate’s men will be desperate for revenge – and points – in this crucial UEFA Nations League game. As for Croatia, they need to bounce back from a 6-0 mauling by Spain on matchday one.

Ahead of kick-off in Rijeka, the Coral News Team go in-depth with a Big Match Breakdown…

The pair have met eight times in total, with the spoils shared pretty evenly. The last three clashes ave seen each side come out on top three times.

Past matches between the pair have tended to be entertaining affairs. Five of the last six have seen both teams find the net, while three of those have produced five goals or more.

Likely XIs

England don’t tend to waver much from a 3-1-4-2 system. But the personnel will definitely have a shake-up, following a number of uncapped inclusions in the squad.

The defensive trio of John Stones, Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker is unlikely to change. However, Borussia Dortmund ace Jaydon Sancho could make his debut on the left of an advanced midfield quartet.

Croatia saw star keeper Daniel Subasic retire after the World Cup, and Simon Sluga is likely to put on the gloves for this clash. Further up the field, an attacking trio of Ivan Perisic, Andrej Kramaric and Ante Rebic look likely to lead the line.

Key Battles

No side in the World Cup looked more dangerous than England from dead-ball situations. And one of the Three Lions’ numerous set-piece goals came with Kieran Trippier’s superb free-kick against Croatia.

Zlatko Dalic’s men will have to be well-organised and ensure they avoid giving away sloppy free-kicks or corners.

For the visitors, Kramaric’s bustling power means England’s defensive trio will have to be at their combative best.

Match Odds

In the match betting, England are marginal favourites 17/10, with a Croatian win 7/4 and 21/10 about the Draw.

Goals look likely once again. It’s 19/20 for Both Teams to Score, while a Score Draw is 13/4. For the ambitious, there’s 9/1 this game sees Over 4.5 Goals again.

Following goals in three of Croatia’s World Cup clashes, Perisic is 11/4 Anytime and 7/1 to be First Goalscorer.

Harry Kane is England’s most likely goalscorer at 7/5 Anytime, while Kieran Trippier is 9/1 to find the net against this opposition once again.
