Odds and previews for tonight’s fixtures

After an opening night of thrilling Champions League action, there should be more to come from this evening’s European clashes.

Reigning champions Real Madrid begin their quest for another European title, as do Juventus and both Manchester teams.

We’ve got a full rundown of City’s clash with Lyon, but stick around here for our tips and previews for five of tonight’s other contests…

Ajax to beat AEK Athens (5:55pm)

There’s a Dutch renaissance in the air these days, with Ajax joining PSV to provide two Eredivise teams in the group stages for the first time since 2011.

The Amsterdam side are unbeaten at home since November, and should have the edge tonight at 4/11. AEK are notoriously poor on their travels, winning only three of 17 away games in the competition.

Young Boys v Manchester United (8:00pm)

After ending August with successive defeats, Manchester United are back on track as they seek a third win in their Group H opener.

Young Boys have won their opening six games in the Swiss league, but have lost nine of their last 13 Champions League games.

United must contend with a plastic pitch, but they’ve shown a more clinical nature in recent weeks, and can get the job done this evening at 4/6.

Real Madrid v Roma (8.00pm)

The reigning champions are entering a new world in Europe. Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo have both moved on.

But they’ve started the season rather nicely under new boss Julen Lopetegui, and have lost only four of their last 53 home games in the competition.

That doesn’t offer much hope for tonight’s visitors and terrible travellers Roma. The Serie A outfit have won only three of their last 21 away games in the Champions League – at CFR Cluj, Basel and Qarabag.  Real are 3/10 to win and 3/4 on the -1 handicap.

Valencia v Juventus (8.00pm)

It’s the same old story so far for Juventus, who are making a mockery of Serie A. The Old Lady are four wins from four, and now turn their attention to ending their 22-year Champions League drought.

That’s why they bought Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese ace is a four-time European champion, and he alone has enough calibre to beat a struggling Valencia side at Evens this evening. Ronnie is the 7/2 favourite to score first tonight at the Mestalla, too.

Benfica v Bayern Munich (8.00pm)

2013 champions Bayern Munich begin their quest with a trip to Portugal. Der FCB have won their opening three games in the Bundesliga, and new boss Niko Kovac appears to be settling in well.

They shouldn’t have too many concerns about beating a Benfica side which has counted home losses to Basel, Man United, CSKA Moscow and Napoli in recent years.

There’s 1/2 about a Bayern win, with Robert Lewandowski 23/10 to score first.
