Tips and preview ahead of Men’s semi-final day

The Women’s final is already confirmed, with Serena Williams up against Naomi Osaka.

So it’s over to the men to settle the scores.

Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and Marin Cilic have all fallen already, but there is still a heavy weight line up stepping onto the Arthur Ashe court tonight.

It’s 12/1 for both men’s semi-finals to go to five sets, and the Coral News Team run the rule over the two big clashes…

Rafael Nadal to beat J. Martin del Potro in five sets – 9/2

It may not be a Nadal-Federer or Nadal-Djokovic (just yet), but the Spaniard and Juan Martin del Potro have had some ferocious encounters through the years.

Nadal has triumphed on the last three occasions, notably beating the Argentine at the same stage of the tournament last year.

The duo’s Wimbledon quarter-final was arguably the game of the fortnight as Nadal recovered from two sets to one down to win in five.

Del Potro has won two out of their last three games on the hard courts. The last time he beat Nadal in a Grand Slam semi-final was in the US Open in 2009 – the year he won the whole tournament!

Number three seed del Potro is 5/4 to win tonight, but this could and probably should go the distance.

Novak Djokovic to beat Kei Nishikori in straight sets – Evens

Back in January it would have been almost inconceivable to see both these men in a Grand Slam semi-final.

Nishikori began the year with a loss at a challenger event and dropped down the rankings considerably.

He’s now ranked 21st after being a career high fourth in 2015.

Djokovic was sidelined by injuries for much of 2017 but has made steady progress culminating in July’s Wimbledon victory.

The Serbian has a 14-2 win record against his latest opponent, but Nishikori did beat him in their only US Open meeting so far in 2014.

Nishikori has the arsenal to disrupt Djokovic and could snare a set, but Djoker could have enough to reach yet another Grand Slam showpiece.
