Big Match Breakdown: Watford v Tottenham Hotspur
Odds and info for Sunday’s Vicarage Road clash
Watford and Tottenham Hotspur head into Sunday’s clash with 100% records after three Premier League games. So something has to give at Vicarage Road.
It’s Spurs who have generally had the better of this fixture, but they face a Hornets side who are already hinting at being this season’s surprise package.
Ahead of this Sunday showdown, live on Sky Sports Premier League from 4:00pm, the Coral News Team have all the info you need in another Big Match Breakdown…
Head-to-Head
The pair may be in similarly fine form at present, but the pair’s head-to-head record suggests Spurs should get the job done in Hertfordshire.
Tottenham have won eight of the last nine meetings, and are unbeaten in 14 clashes with the Hornets. You have to go back to 1987 for the last time Watford won this fixture.
The most recent clash – in April of this year – ended in an easy 2-0 win for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Likely XIs
Nathaniel Chalobah returned to the side with a stellar midweek display against Reading, and that’s likely to earn him a first Prem outing of the season.
He could partner Etienne Capoue in a defensive midfield duo, with boss Javi Gracia favouring a 4-4-2 system of late.
Spurs’ only enforced change comes between the posts. Injury to Hugo Lloris means Michel Vorm is expected to start.
In attack, Christian Eriksen will sit behind the duo of Harry Kane and Lucas Moura – who tormented Manchester United by netting all three goals on Monday night.
Key Battles
The obvious one is how – or rather, if – Watford’s backline can cope with Kane and Moura.
Man United’s back-four were tormented on Monday, with the beleaguered Phil Jones subbed off before the hour mark. Craig Cathcart and Christian Kabasele could be in for a long afternoon.
Watford’s biggest creative threats lie in Roberto Pereyra and Will Hughes out wide. Whether or not they have the time and space to whip balls in to Andre Gray and Troy Deeney could have a huge impact on the game.
Match Odds
In the Match Betting, Tottenham are 6/10 favourites for maximum points. Meanwhile, it’s 29/10 for the Draw and 17/4 for a Watford win.
While Spurs should have enough to edge this, it’s hard to see past the home side scoring. The Hornets have netted in all four of their games so far this season.
Coral’s odds make it 8/11 for Both Teams to Score, while it’s 9/4 for Tottenham and BTTS.
In the goalscorer odds, Kane is 7/10 to Score Anytime – putting him firmly top of the betting.
Teammate Dele Alli notched in the last meeting and is 11/5 Anytime.
For the hosts, Troy Deeney is 13/5 to score his first ever goal against the North London club.
