Odds, tips and preview for Nations League clash

England and Spain kick-off their Nations League campaigns with a huge game at Wembley tonight.

The Three Lions will be full of optimism after reaching the World Cup semi-finals this summer. Spain start a new era here under Luis Enrique following their traumatic time in Russia.

You can watch the action live on Sky Sports Football at 7:45pm. But before it gets underway, the Coral News Team have all the pre-match info and odds…

England came agonisingly close to beating Spain the last time they met in November 2016. The Three Lions went 2-0 up but Spain got two very late goals to level the scores.

Looking further back doesn’t make good reading for England fans. La Roja had won four of the five games before the 2016 clash. The exception came in 2011, when a Frank Lampard goal secured a 1-0 win against the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and David Villa.

Likely XIs

England v Spain teams

Gareth Southgate is set to name most of the side that did so well in Russia, with two likely changes.

Luke Shaw should replace Manchester United teammate Ashley Young as the left wing-back. Shaw has started the season well and Young isn’t a long-term option at 33-years-old. Marcus Rashford also could fill in for the injured Raheem Sterling up front.

Enrique won’t be able to call on Iniesta, Gerard Pique or David Silva after their international retirements. Diego Costa has also pulled out with an injury. But the Spain squad is still packed with quality.

Alvaro Morata will be looking to mark his return to the national set-up with a goal, while David de Gea is under pressure between the posts after a shaky World Cup.

Key Battles

For all of Spain’s technical ability, there isn’t much pace in their team. Marcus Rashford could cause real problems if England are able to get him in behind.

The Three Lions’ main issue will be trying to get a hold of possession. A Spanish midfield trio of Sergio Busquets, Thiago Alcantara and Saul won’t give up the ball easily.

Southgate’s side really struggled when Croatia started passing it around them in Russia. This will be a test of whether they’ve learned to deal with that approach.

Match Odds

Spain are narrow 33/20 favourites to secure an away win. England are a 9/5 shot to get the points, while the draw is going for 21/10.

With so much attacking talent on the two sides, Both Teams to Score is 10/11.

England will want to continue the momentum they built over the summer and get off to a good start. The hosts are 11/10 to score first.

It’s 7/2 that Harry Kane gets that opening goal. The England captain is 7/5 to net at any point.

Rashford is also 16/5 to hit the back of the net.

Morata and Rodrigo Moreno are Spain’s likeliest scorers at 2/1 apiece.
