Schalke 2/1 favourites to bring in Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater
Five sides 10/1 or shorter for 28-year-old
Midfielder Danny Drinkwater has endured a miserable 12 months since joining Chelsea for £35m. But it seems the 28-year-old may finally have an exit route from Stamford Bridge.
German club Schalke 04 are 2/1 to sign Drinkwater this month on either a loan or permanent deal.
However, they’re one of five clubs at odds of 10/1 or shorter to secure a summer deal for him.
Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem at 3/1 are second-favourites. Chelsea have done plenty of prior business with the Dutch club in recent years – loaning the Dutch side the likes of Dominic Solanke, Lewis Baker and Mason Mount.
Next up are 5/1 shots Bayer Leverkusen. They’re followed by Inter Milan at 8/1 and VfB Stuttgart at 10/1.
Coral’s John Hill said: “It looks like Chelsea are happy to let Danny Drinkwater go out on loan for the season and it is Schalke who are the favourites to sign the Englishman before the transfer window closes in Europe.”
And with new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri believed to not be a fan of Drinkwater, any loan move could well turn into a permanent deal.
**Danny Drinkwater’s next club (loans do count)
2/1 Schalke, 3/1 Vitesse, 5/1 Bayer Leverkusen, 8/1 Inter Milan, 10/1 Stuggart
