Five-year old on course to make history

Poet’s Word heads our betting for Wednesday’s Juddmonte International at 7-4.

The British-trained thoroughbread won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot earlier this summer.

Owned by Sir Michael Stoute, Poet’s Word tops the betting ahead of Coral-Eclipse winner, Roaring Lion, at 5-2.

Coral’s David Stevens said; “Poet’s Word and Roaring Lion have won the two ten furlong Group Ones run in the UK so far this summer.

The pair dominate the betting for the third, although with outsider Thundering Blue the only one in the field not to have won at the highest level, Wednesday’s contest is far from being a two-horse race,”

The Group 1 showpiece, run over an extended mile and a quarter and part of the QIPCO British Champions Series, has attracted a final field of eight.

James Doyle will be back in the saddle for the race at York.

The horse is looking to become only the second to win the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, QIPCO-sponsored King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Juddmonte International in the same season, after Duke of Marmalade in 2008.

**Juddmonte International
7-4 Poet’s Word, 5-2 Roaring Lion, 5 Saxon Warrior, 10 Benbatl, 12 Without Parole, Latrobe, 14 Thunder Snow, 25 Thundering Blue
